The log cabin renovation at the Crozet Horse Farm paired with an addition to the cabin and an extensive landscape project. The larger projects recommended the integration of old spaces into the new, creating broad connections to the landscape, repurposing spaces, lighting design and updates to other systems.
The design brief emphasized the desire to allow the old to be distinct from the new in style, color and lighting design while wishing to connect the old and new. Working with Alana Woerpel, interior design, and Gan Leehanantakul, lighting design, formwork developed modifications to the spaces. Along with the design scope came the development of details to support the new lighting and finishes strategies in a log cabin construction type.
The artist Rebekah Graves designed and fabricated the metal and decorative glass chandelier. The accent up-lighting the wood ceiling and log rafters is formwork's custom design.
Working on an atypical structure such as the log cabin, requires tight coordination. At the Crozet Horse Farm, the execution of complex details to achieve the lighting effects, special finishes such as leather-wrapped columns and site specific art installations were the result of working closely with design consultants, artists, fabricators and builder.
